Daghdgan

In ancient times people had a lot of beliefs. They divided life into three levels: materialistic, intellectual and spiritual. There are a lot of mystery in the spiritual level that are not discovered completely. Anything that had importance for someone needed to protect. For this reason people used different items which were given meaning by the people. One of them is Daghdgan. It was wide spread among people. For their houses they used big Daghdgans which were hang on the entrance or somewhere could be seen. Daghdgans were made also for people and animals. Little Daghtgans were used for newborn children in order to protect them from bad eye. It was wide spread to hang Daghdgan on the necks of domestic animals. They were made from wood especially from the trees which considered holy: from walnut, oak, beech and different fruit trees. Mainly Daghdgans are made from wood but there are also made from metal and other substances. They have different shapes: moonlike and ramlike, triangle and long shaped. The long shaped which had beads on it was called Khiarashar and used when couple couldn’t have a child. For newborn baby was used little tubular, cube or square plate Daghdgans. The carvings symbolize sun, water and eternity.
